Core Electric, Michigan Pump is a third generation Michigan based pump and motor repair and sales shop that was established in 1976. We take great pride in our workmanship and our support of Detroit industry. Operating out of our 23,000 square foot facility in Melvindale, Michigan, our building is equipped with five overhead cranes with a 10 ton lifting capacity to serve our customers’ needs.

Machinist
The key to making this position, as with many, is follow-up and dedication. It is critical that the tasks you are assigned are completed to the fullest level EACH DAY prior to your departure for home. Obviously exceptions exist, but those must be discussed and approved each day by your direct supervisor(s).
SAFETY is priority number ONE. You must consider the safety of yourself and your coworker with every task. Should you witness ANYONE operating/working in anyway that endangers themselves, others or company and customer equipment you are to report it to your supervisor IMMEDIATELY and without exception. Failure to do so can result in termination.
Your presence in the shop is required daily. Time off should be prearranged whenever necessary.
Occasionally and regularly, you may be needed to work/assist in another department and this can range from onsite-service work to sweeping the floor. It is the responsibility of EVERYONE in the building to do what is needed for that’s days tasks, regardless of how complicated or simple they may appear it is your responsibility to complete those tasks to the best of your ability as directed by your supervisor(s).
It is your responsibility to know what your current task is AND your next task(s) are, it is equally important to not only know the entire scope of work for that task but who the customer is and most importantly the expected time for that task.
You will need to clock-in and out at the beginning and end of each shift and also anytime you leave the property for personal reasons. A electronic time card will be issued to you and it will be kept on-site at all times. No one is to use your time card except you, doing so is grounds for immediate termination without exception.
Your work station should be cleaned up either after you completed that task or at the minimum, at the end of that day. CONSIDERATION for your coworkers is as important as consideration for yourself and the customer, without both we do not exist.
You should be proficient in the operation of manual engine lathes, boring mills and welding (TIG & MIG) on various materials (mainly steel and stainless, but we do work on titanium, hastelloy, aluminum, bronze and copper also). We see a wide variety of equipment even though the mainstay of our business are motors (AC/DC) and pumps(not hydraulic), we also work on blower assemblies and gearboxes and service a wide variety of customers in the region. You will also dynamically balance all rotating equipment that comes through the Machine Shop.
The specifications to which each item is machined and balanced will vary by the equipment it goes to, in other words it will be determined on a job-to-job basis.
This job description is intended to be inclusive of all your responsibilities as a member of the Core Electric Team, but situations may arise that are not addressed here or in the Employee Handbook. In those cases you are expected to discuss them with your Mentor or Supervisor for direction.

You should be proficient in the operation of bearing heaters, parts cleaners, sand blasters, hydraulic presses (for coupling bearing removal), torch (propane mainly), dial indicators (for alignment), understand shaft geometry (run-out/straightness), megohmmeters, medium-high voltage equipment, HiLo’s, crains, etc. We see a wide variety of equipment even though the mainstay of our business are motors (AC/DC) and pumps(not hydraulic), we also work on blower assemblies and gearboxes and service a wide variety of customers in the region.
